People Today Be Like…

While reading in the book of Hebrews, I came to this verse: “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord” Hebrews 12:14

I got to thinking about our culture lately, and that most people don’t pursue peace, but the opposite.  People are confrontational, argumentative, divided, etc., which brought to my mind what the Apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 about what people will be like “in the last days”, we must be in the last days he was referring to.

If we are to pursue peace with all people, and holiness (set apart or different in a godly way) so people can get a glimpse of what Jesus is like, then we probably have the best opportunity in history to do so.  Look at the passage in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and consider being the opposite:

People today be like: You be like:
Lovers of themselves Love others
Lovers of money Not greedy, generous, trusts God’s promises
Boasters Praise others
Proud Humble
Blaspheme or curse people and God Respect people and God
Disobedient to parents Obey and honor parents and elders
Unthankful Thankful
Unholy Holy (rise above the norm)
Unloving Loving
Unforgiving Forgiving
Slanderers Uplifting and respectful
Without self-control Self-controlled
Brutal Graceous
Despisers of good Promote and do good
Traitors Patriotic, pray for our leaders
Reckless and Rash Responsible and thoughtful
Conceited Unselfish & others-centered
Lovers of pleasure Lovers of God
Fake godliness Genuine godliness
Denying God’s power Pointing out God’s power

And when people notice how different you are (in a positive way), you can point to Jesus as the reason as Peter said in 1 Peter 3:15.
